Education Pou

Our focus in the past five years has been in the early years sector working with partners and with the Ministry of Education and teachers to support transitions to school, the development of a structured learning approach to oral language development in ECE settings and strengthening the capability of the non-profit early years sector.

We regularly research and review our funding into the education sector. In our latest sector-wide scan, we identified seven key issues currently affecting the sector:

  • Inequality
  • Digital inclusion
  • Mental health
  • Curriculum achievement rates,
  • Resourcing
  • Attendance
  • Engagement.

We note the latter two is an ongoing impact of Covid-19.

As well as our sector wide scans, we have researched key areas - these include structured approaches to oral language development, effective transitions to school, and good practice for in-school programmes. These have all identified diverse and tailored approaches to supporting students and enabling the best conditions for children to thrive.

We have been aiming to enable and support equitable learning opportunities that include access to quality early education, culturally responsive learning, and support to move through different stages of life.

We are currently working with partners to review education data to help us identify where we might most effectively support positive life outcomes through education, over the next five years.
